CHIRLANE MCCRAY, FIRST LADY OF NEW YORK CITY, TO JOIN THE “FOR THE LOVE OF FLINT” EVENT TO COLLECT SUPPLIES

Organizations, businesses and activists come together to provide relief for the citizens affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan

February 17, 2016 (New York, NY)--New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray will join Justice League NYC, Young Professionals United for Change, Harlem Park to Park, Sylvia’s Restaurant and others for the #ForTheLoveofFlint event to collect supplies. Water is a vital necessity but the collection effort is focusing on more than water for the city of Flint’s affected citizens. The event’s co-organizer, Tamika Mallory, explained, “While there are many drives underway to supply residents with much-needed water, this drive is focused on additional needs as identified by people on the ground that are helping us meet the lesser known needs of the most under-served communities.”

Brian Benjamin, of Young Professionals United for Change and event co-organizer, added, "It is very important that the everyday citizen gets involved in this fight to help the people of Flint in their time of need. As the unofficial capital of Black America, we thought it very important and symbolic to do a collection drive in Harlem and we hope that this will be a catalyst for similar events around the country."

Co-organizer Tren’ness Woods-Black said, "There is nothing more powerful than lending your platform to those in need. Harlem once again has shown its beauty as a village equipped with the power to influence a movement. I'm so grateful that we have answered this call to action, in the name of Love for Flint."
